Autism Speech Therapy in Edmonton

Autism is the heart of what we do at CCL. Dara Fay has spent 31+ years helping autistic children and teens communicate in the way that works best for them — whether that’s spoken words, a communication device, gestures, or a mix of everything.

Our approach is neurodiversity-affirming. That means we don’t try to make your child act “less autistic.” We work with how your child naturally communicates and build real, two-way connection. The goal is for your child to be understood and to understand others — not to perform eye contact or hide who they are.

Every autistic child is different, so we start by getting to know yours: what they love, how they already communicate, and what’s frustrating for them right now. Then we build a plan around that, and we coach you so the progress keeps going at home.

We also work side-by-side with the occupational therapists at Flourish (in our shared clinic space), so if your child also needs support with sensory needs, regulation, or daily routines, we can coordinate — and joint OT/SLP sessions are possible.

My child is autistic and not talking. Can speech therapy still help?

Yes. Communication is much bigger than speech. We support understanding, connection, and expression using whatever tools fit your child — including AAC (talking devices) if that’s the right path. Many non-speaking children become strong communicators.

Will you try to stop my child from stimming or scripting?

No. Stimming and scripting are forms of communication and regulation. We work with them, not against them.

My child was just diagnosed. When should we start?

Earlier is helpful, but there’s no “too late.” Book a free 15-minute consult and we’ll tell you honestly whether to start now or wait.

Do you do therapy in a way that doesn’t overwhelm my child?

Yes — sessions are child-led and paced to your child. We follow their interests and comfort level.
